It’s also National Metal Day, according to VH1 Classic. This is, of course, every day for me.

Speaking of VH1 Classic and metal, I like That Metal Show, but it also bugs me. It’s been on the air for years and is popular, but I’d like to see a retooling. First off, I’m not a huge fan of the hosts. Keep Eddie Trunk. Yeah, he has the charisma of a loaf of Wonder Bread, but he’s knowledgeable about metal and knows many of the artists on a personal basis. But Jim Florentine and Don Jamieson? They’re supposed to be stand-up comedians, but they’re not funny and add nothing to the show. What’s Brian Posehn doing? Jim Breuer? Hal Sparks? These guys are metal fans and actually funny. I also think it would behoove them to focus both on classic metal and more modern stuff. Instead of interviewing Night Ranger, what about Children of Bodom or Lamb of God? Lastly, ditch talking to the audience. It’s painful to watch these people awkwardly stumble through pre-written questions to “Stump the Trunk.” That is all.

That said, I do dig that VH1 Classic is pretty much the only network that gives heavy metal its due respect. I love that I can tune in on a Friday night and watch an Iron Maiden performance or Behind the Music with Megadeth.
